Quality Staff Engineer
About Lendable
Lendable is on a mission to make consumer finance amazing: faster, cheaper and friendlier.
We’re building one of the world’s leading fintech companies and are off to a strong start:
One of the UK’s newest unicorns with a team of >300 people
Among the top 10 fastest growing tech companies in the UK
Profitable since 2017
Backed by top investors including Balderton Capital and Goldman Sachs and most recently OTPP (Ontario Teachers' Pension Plan) in 2022
Loved by customers with the best reviews in the market (4.9/5 across 10,000s of reviews)
So far, we’ve rebuilt the Big Three consumer finance products from scratch: loans, credit cards and car finance. We get money into our customers’ hands in minutes instead of days.
We’re growing fast, and there’s a lot more to do: we’re going after the two biggest Western markets (UK and US) where trillions are held by big banks with dated systems and painful processes. We launched our loans product in the US in 2022 with more product launches to follow this year!
Join us if you want to

About the role
We’re looking for a Quality Staff Engineer, experienced in multiple backend technologies to join our engineering team and lead our quality focus. Our current engineering team is around 120 strong and has helped transform finance by building a next-generation lending, car finance, and credit card platform.
We are relentless in our pursuit of Quality and productivity and are looking for a Quality Staff Engineer to come in and work with our teams to improve the quality of our products by making our infrastructure easier to test and develop.
The goal of our Quality Staff Engineer is to lead our engineering team to self-sufficiency for developing quality software and testing by setting an effective quality strategy and creating effective testing frameworks as opposed to writing tests yourself.
Your responsibilities will include
Provide technical leadership: Your first job is to act as the technical authority in quality engineering, guiding our engineers in terms of best practices in developing quality software.
Develop test infrastructure: Take the lead in the development of the test infrastructure the teams will use. Develop test harnesses for teams to leverage to develop quality and well tested software
Manage Quality Team: Guide and inspire Quality Team to build their skills and grow their careers at Lendable.
Define quality standards: Establish quality standards and guidelines for software development, testing, and release processes. Ensure adherence to these standards throughout the organisation.
Collaborate with engineers: Guide team members in delivering higher quality software by providing technical expertise, facilitating code reviews, and promoting best practices in software development. Help the Quality Team to work effectively with colleagues to deliver tactical software improvements and level up their colleagues skills as they rotate between teams
Conduct quality reviews and audits: Perform regular quality reviews and audits to identify areas for improvement, ensure compliance with quality standards, and drive continuous process improvement.
Leverage quality metrics: Measure the quality of our software deterministically and use the findings to drive quality improvements and measure impact.
Drive quality improvement initiatives: Identify opportunities for process improvement, automation, and efficiency gains in quality assurance. Lead initiatives to implement these improvements and measure their impact.
Evaluate and select testing tools: Assess and recommend testing tools, frameworks, and technologies that can enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of quality assurance processes. Lead the implementation and integration of these tools.
Facilitate Post Mortems: Facilitate post-mortems to analyse incidents and bugs, identify improvements, and drive continuous learning and support teams to ensure follow-ups are prioritised.
Champion use of Metrics: Use metrics to help teams to identify issues early and provide feedback on how effective changes are across business, delivery and quality domains.
Retrospectives: Monitor retrospective feedback to reflect on performance, identify improvements, and drive quality enhancements.
Quality Guild: Lead the Quality Guild to share knowledge, best practices, and foster a culture of continuous learning across all of our teams
Our aim is ultimately to level up the infrastructure and skills of our teams so they can continue independently when working with other teams who may need similar support.
Day to Day expectations
Hands on Engineering (60%): Developing Test Framework Innovation, and leading the technical direction of our testing infrastructure and review and guide teams on the most effective testing strategies
Coordinate Quality Initiatives (10%): Collaborate with the teams on their quality initiatives, providing direction and guidance on their development
Manage Quality Team (10%): Management of Quality team members and coordination with the Quality Guild
