About this role

Suspense thrives on uncertainty, a calculated pause that draws in the observer. In this pause, placeholders emerge as valuable cues. Their very presence suggests that what is yet unseen could hold the answers, a revelation or a solution. When used thoughtfully, a placeholder can tease and compel, engaging the imagination.

Responsibilities

In websites, a loading spinner is no different than the ellipsis of a suspenseful plot twist; it tells the viewer that what is coming is worth waiting for. Key benefits of effective placeholders include:

  • Maintaining engagement: By signaling more to come, placeholders prevent user drop-off.
  • Setting expectations: Clear, well-placed placeholders hint at what content is coming next, adding structure.
  • Building suspense: The anticipation of more content holds attention, just as in storytelling.

Placeholder content, however, must tread a careful line. Too sparse, and it risks undermining its own suspense; too dense, and it overwhelms with unnecessary clutter. The balance lies in leaving just enough room for the mind to wander and fill the gaps.

About the role

About the role:

As Compliance Monitoring Officer, you'll join Lendable's Compliance team to help ensure the firm meets its regulatory obligations and delivers good outcomes for customers. You'll design and deliver structured compliance monitoring reviews across the business, identifying risks and gaps, and working with stakeholders to track remediation to completion. This is a hands-on, detail-driven role for someone who understands consumer credit regulation and wants to build a strong second-line assurance function within a fast-moving fintech.

You'll report into the Compliance and Governance Manager, working closely with teams across the business as well as external bodies including the FCA and ICO.

Your team's objectives:

  • Deliver a robust, well-evidenced compliance monitoring programme across the firm

  • Ensure adherence to regulatory requirements and internal policies at all times

  • Identify and escalate compliance risks, breaches, or suspicious activity before they cause harm

  • Provide second-line assurance over the effectiveness of Quality Assurance activities

  • Keep the business ahead of regulatory change through horizon scanning

  • Embed Consumer Duty and good customer outcomes across the organisation

How you'll impact those objectives:

  • Design terms of reference, testing logs, and comprehensive final reports for each monitoring review

  • Present findings to senior management and drive agreed actions to completion

  • Maintain accurate, audit-ready records across all stages of monitoring activity

  • Review and validate the effectiveness of Quality Assurance work as second-line assurance

  • Support regulatory reporting, horizon scanning, and ad hoc compliance advice requests

  • Investigate and escalate potential breaches or unusual patterns to the right internal and external stakeholders

What do you need to succeed in this role:

  • 2+ years' experience in compliance monitoring within consumer credit, ideally including secured lending products

  • Solid knowledge of financial services regulation (AML, KYC, GDPR, DISP, CONC, MCOB)

  • Strong grounding in risk assessment methodologies and compliance monitoring techniques

  • A 2:1 degree (finance, law, business, or related) plus 3 A-levels at grade B or above; ICA or similar a plus

  • Sharp analytical skills with strong attention to detail and the ability to interpret data and spot patterns

  • Excellent written and verbal communication, with the confidence to engage stakeholders at all levels

Interview process

  • Screening stage:

    • 15 minute remote cognitive exercise

    • 30 minute Interview with the Talent Partner

  • A short exercise to complete at home with a 7 day deadline

  • 60 minute: Remote or in person (if preferred) interview: with Compliance and Governance Manager and Senior Compliance Monitoring Officer.

  • 30 minute: Final stage interview with the Head of Compliance

About Lendable

A large group of around 50 people, and one dog, in an office facing the camera and smiling

Lendable is on a mission to build the world's best technology to help people get credit and save money.

  • Founded in 2014

  • Profitable since 2017

  • Unicorn in 2021

  • Backed by Balderton, Goldman Sachs and Ontario Teachers' Pension Plan

  • Loved by customers & employees with top reviews on Glassdoor and Trustpilot

So far, we’ve rebuilt the big three consumer finance products from scratch: loans, credit cards and car finance. We get money into our customers’ hands in minutes instead of days. We’re growing fast, and there’s a lot more to do. We’re going after the two biggest Western markets (UK and US) where trillions are held by big banks with dated systems and painful processes.

Life at Lendable

Two people with laptops on their lap sat either side of a black labrador on a sofa in front of a window. The dog is a very good girl.
  • The opportunity to scale up one of the world’s most successful fintech companies

  • Best-in-class compensation, including equity
